Cat Trouble

Despite their diminutive size, cats easily do as much damage (to property, person and lifestyle) as dogs. But at least dogs feel bad about it after the fact.

Listen, when you've got as many cats as we do, you pretty much need a full-time committee to police those troublemakers and administer the proper justice.

Because they will constantly scratch, fight, puke, poop, pee, shed, bite, chew through expensive wires, break up romantic moments and even smash iPads like nobody's business. Trust me on this one, I'm a pro.

Goo-d Father Loogie

Ha! I'm back, suckas! Despite taking on a second, gargantuan challenge of making a pattern everyday, I haven't forgot about the good ol' SAAC...

I still plan on catching up to speed, starting with Goo! So I present Father Loogie...

goo

Father Loogie visits you in the night and fills your nose full of juicy viscous snot, just so you can spend your days hocking bright green/yellow/brown/redish loogies like a champ.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to barf a lot.

Hairy Situation

Alright, I know this is pretty late. But we've had stupid crazy deadlines since December, and I've also had to get art ready for a couple shows, so unfortunately this had to wait.

Everyone who knows us knows we have too many pets for our own good. And getting any sleep when you have a pile of meowing, purring, pawing, yawning, stretching, burping, barfing, tooting animals is not easy. In fact, it's quite a 'hairy situation'! Eh? Eh?

I'm not 100% pleased with how it turned out, but I have to move on. I swear I will get caught up on my SAAC pieces ASAP. I do hope to revisit this, and if that happens I will post it again.

I do love the drawing itself, which Lindsay gets some credit for. I drew it, she inked it. Check out the original black and white drawing!

Reginald B. Uttonface

Hey! Feels good to be back!

Buttonface_500px
Portrait of Reginald B. Utton the Third.

Reginald is a bit of a wiener. At school the other kids constantly poke fun. Although he actually likes the attention most of the time, one taunt that stings more than any other is the dreaded Reginald B. Uttonface.

Why are kids so cruel?

They call him 'Teeth'...

Flattop. Mumbles. Itchy. Etc... Dick Tracy gangsters with descriptions for names. I figured, maybe Teeth would be a good gangster name.

teeth
the scary part about Teeth is what you don't see of his teeth.

I guess maybe he's a zombie. Or Killer Croc's brother or something. He just ended up really green, but that's the way I pictured him. Maybe he's real and I'm psychic.

I like the way this one turned out, which is amazing, based on my terrible, stinky, garbage original sketch.

Revenge is best served with a laser.

zipperzapper

This is a strange drawing. I wanted an excuse to try some new things. I limited myself to only using the standard, round brush in Photoshop with 100% hardness. I also limited myself to painting on one layer, instead of dozen's like I normally do. I also tried to avoid flat color and make sure there was a lot of smaller variations with slight temperature differences.

I was partially inspired by my Oil Painting class. I had a lot of fun in that class, and I've been looking for something new to excite me. This is beginning to be exiting, I think.

But I guess Monkey Suits and Lasers (or Lazers!) make everything more exciting.

Painbow Pun Slimes.

So, you thought I wasn't going to do a piece this month (ummm, April), eh? Eh?!? Wrong, buddy, dead wrong. You don't know jack sh*t about nothing.

Sorry for taking it so personally.

Despite the fact that I spent the entire month living like a hobo and making a freakin' kitchen for TV, I wanted to get something down for Rainbow Fun Times.

So I went all A Day In the Life and just thought of things in my life that I enjoy, and that are the colors of the rainbow, and drew them one by one.

rainbow
some colors are a lot harder than others... i'm looking at you, indigo.

I'd like to go back and refine this a lot, it could be way cooler. But I probably shouldn't bother.

P.S. I pretty much ripped this idea off from Francesca. 100% all the way. Thanks Francesca!

P.P.S. Except for the expression "dollas!" That I stole from Chris Crammer.

Pixel Boyfriends.

I play a lot of video games. And (luckily) Lindsay doesn't mind watching. In very rare cases, she enjoys watching more than I enjoy playing. Usually that happens when she falls in love with one of the game's characters.

I rounded up four of her all-time major crushes. These are four that, even to this day, she will still smile uncontrollably when you mention their names...

pixel boyfriends
the four boner brothers.

pixel boyfriend_otacon
Otacon, from the Metal Gear Solid series (specifically, Metal Gear Solid 4). He's a socially awkward otaku (duh), he falls for dog-loving terrorist snipers and he cries. A lot. Oh, and he's been known to soil his pants at the drop of a hat.

pixel boyfriend_garrus
Garrus Vakarian, from the Mass Effect series (specifically Mass Effect 2). Garrus didn't make too much of an impression in the first Mass Effect, but Lindsay knew straight away that Commander Baby Jiff Shepard would be choosing Garrus for some booty-knockin' action in Mass Effect 2. He might be a bad-ass with a sniper rifle, but he's pretty awkward when it comes to the (human) female form. Plus, he kind of looks like a cat made of rock.

pixel boyfriend_edgeworth
Edgeworth, of the Phoenix Wright series. Although he started off as the bad guy, Edgeworth's pompous attitude and brilliant mind attracted Lindsay right off the bat. Not to mention his penchant for purple and ruffles is pretty irresistible.

pixel boyfriend_remy
Remy, from Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. I don't think Lindsay or I really know much about this French brawler with abandonment issues. But he's got sweet style, sweet hair and a really big hands.

Don't hate! Chill, man!

I think Adam made this month's topic just for me! I originally made this piece for Capcom Unity earlier in the month. Each week they'd choose one of the Robot Masters from Mega Man 10 for fans to art-up. I did Chillman.

chillman_final
he's cold. blooded.

Mega Man 10 is new, but it's still 8 bit. I love Capcom and retro games. But I hate losing.

If you want the whole story, check out my blog.

Boxing Bunny

Kids these days don't know squat about boxing! Or bunnies for that matter!

Back in my day we didn't have these little lop-eared sissies prancing around, throwing limp-wrist punches! No sir, boxing bunnies were tough as all get out! They ate rusty nails for breakfast then pooped out solid gold by noon! And they liked it. A lot.

The toughest of them all was good ol' Punchy McPunch. Now there was a boxing bunny...

Punchy McPunch; real American hero.

EDIT: I added boots. What was I thinking? He might have been tough, but not tough enough to box without those little lace-up booty things...

Alright, so here is a fat bird in the most literal sense possible.

Little Dancing King: The Prolouge.

Long before becoming the confident and amazing and graceful and charming (as he appears in Chris C's previous post), the Little Dancing King was not such a hot dancer.

But one Christmas morning he found a mysterious present waiting for him when we awoke, and inside was a pair of magical dancing shoes!

At first they were out of control, and he could not contain the rhythm within. His dancing was reckless, and more spastic than inspiring. But over time the Little Dancing King was able to mind-meld with the shoes and became the unstoppable glory of pure dance excitement that the legends speak of to this day!

...

So basically what I'm saying is; I made Fan Art and wrote FanFic for Chris C's post.

Peek at a Boo!

You didn't think I'd miss a Halloween inspired challenge, did you?

Did you ever wonder what ghosts might look like under their friendly haunting garb? They probably look real dead.

Babies in Balloons.

Balloon baby? More like Balloon Baby Kitties! Right?

Am I right?

balloon baby V1.jpg

I just finished actually building all the pieces to this in Illustrator. Usually I'd take the time to tweak colors, fine tune and let things marinate a little bit once I got to this point but I'm out of time.

Not just because tomorrow is the 1st, but with the wedding and work and all the jazz coming up in the next few weeks/month, I didn't honestly think I'd get the chance to return to it anytime soon.

So here it is. I fully reserve the right to overhaul the color/composition at anytime.

TEN Floral Dilemmas!

Last month I struggled to come up with an idea, this month it just came to me instantly. I don't know much about flowers, but I know one thing; cats love to eat them.

Having a buttload of cats (more like TEN buttloads!) we constantly face the same dilemma over and over. Do we (read: Lindsay) buy pretty flowers? It would spruce up our house and hide the noxious fumes, but we also run the risk of the cats eating them, making a mess and puking them up?

It's a real "Floral Dilemma," to say the least.

floral dilemma.jpg
bad kitty! you are bad and ohmygoshyouaresocuteiwanttodie!

If this looks kind of familiar to those who know my work, it should.

I drew a sketch of a cat (specifically Oliva) eating flowers, and as I started recreating it digitally, I realized it was basically the same drawing with slight changes.

So I sped up the process by re-purposing the old artwork. Some (Adam) might call it lazy and cheating, but others (me) call it smart and crafty and awesome and I should probably be commended for being so efficient!

Luckily Adam can't be mad, because he's still laughing over that "TEN buttloads" joke that only he probably gets.

Hula Ghoula hates Deadlines...

Soooo.... I'm pretty late, but Hula Ghoula has arrived!

hula ghoula.jpg
better late than never.

I struggled a lot with this drawing. I redrew it again and again, which is strange for me. Then I tried a new color way that was more time consuming than it was worth.

Add in leaving town for a couple weekends, freelance projects, summer fun and work, and I got behind.

BUT! Notice the flowers?

Are those cute little blossoms going to remain good, like Mother Nature? Or will they be corrupted to be evil, like Hula Ghoula? Hmmm, I don't know. Sounds like a real Floral Dilemma, no?

Ha!

Retro is the new Useless.

To be honest, this one almost didn't get made. At all. I found the topic really tough for me to get into. It took a long time to find an angle to excite me, but once I did, I dove in. Which is kind of the fun of this whole "challenge" thing.

Sinning is so easy.

When I think about Sin, obviously I think of the 7 Deadly Sins. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride.

And, in most modern cases, I think you can trace the cause of these Sins back to one thing: money.

money idea-working.jpg
i like to buy stuff, too.

I did this version at the beginning of the month and finished it quickly. But I was hoping to go back and do another version with hand-worked media. I still might, but I thought I'd post this before the month is up, to make sure I'm not tardy.

CMYKollaboration.

cupid is a baby with it's butt showing. and since i wasn't feeling the butt-babies this month, this entry is a collaboratively morphed, but lovingly handled, symbol of mine and chris (hajny)'s affection.

Linework and Silhouettes.jpg

true love.... true zombie love - that is what symbolizes my love for chris h. and vice versa (i'm sure).

we're in the process of making some wedding plans and thought this was a fitting way to unite our stuff .... (it started out as our save the date and snowballed into something else!)

i drew the faces and inked them and chris added the zombie hair.texture.faces.linework combination!

TRUE LOVE!
