LDK Origins Fanart

Once upon a time, even before the Little Dancing King was a great dancer OR a king, he wasn't really anything. Every morning he would wake up determined to be amazing, but after a full day of mundanity, he would go to bed hoping the next day would be better.
One day he woke up to see a Glistening White Dancing Jumpsuit hanging in his room. It was the answer to his problems! He could wear the suit and become the amazing person he always wanted to be!
There was only one issue.

LDK Fan Art: Pre Pre Prequel

So, I couldn't resist (plus I have nothing better to do at work on the eve of christmas). So I decided I would show the tale of how the LDK got the K in his name.

At the start of this stirring tale he is just Little. But the End, a Little King, soon to get his shoes and become the Little Dancing King. Now the real question is, how did he get so damn little?!

More Mysterious LDK FAN ART

I am making this post for Lindsay, who has mysteriously been deleted from being a participant of SAAC...

Here is more fan art for Chris C's Little Dancing King.

dancing king
the Little Dancing King finds his mysterious gift...

Mysterious.

Little Dancing King: The Prolouge.

Long before becoming the confident and amazing and graceful and charming (as he appears in Chris C's previous post), the Little Dancing King was not such a hot dancer.

But one Christmas morning he found a mysterious present waiting for him when we awoke, and inside was a pair of magical dancing shoes!

At first they were out of control, and he could not contain the rhythm within. His dancing was reckless, and more spastic than inspiring. But over time the Little Dancing King was able to mind-meld with the shoes and became the unstoppable glory of pure dance excitement that the legends speak of to this day!

...

So basically what I'm saying is; I made Fan Art and wrote FanFic for Chris C's post.

Little Dance King!

Why don't we wear more jump suits when we dance?

He has a crown, he must be a king...

Sorry that this old guy is fully clothed, reasonably dry, and lacking any good dangling bits. Clearly I am suffering some effects of jet lag. I apologize.

December's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

We've all heard about the Queen, I think it's time the King gets a chance to shine! So polish those dancing shoes and draw your artsy respects for his highness.

The challenge is set. Bring it.

Special Treat: Mixed Veggies

Chris Crammer and myself made this beautiful work via the magic of the internet. It tells a stirring tale of giving, sharring, wanting, and a proper diet all wrapped into a package of good fashion sense and in-style hair. Enjoy, please:

Peek at a Boo!

You didn't think I'd miss a Halloween inspired challenge, did you?

Did you ever wonder what ghosts might look like under their friendly haunting garb? They probably look real dead.

OK, my real entry.

This guy's boo-boo: Having his face scraped off. But he seems OK with it, so it's all good. No worries.

**Boring back story: I started this forever ago. It was a test on clayboard. I discovered clayboard is not for me, at all. I might hate it. So I started this and said to myself, 'Clayboard is dumb. Eff this.' So it sat for months. Until tonight. I decided I wanted to finish it. It occurred to me it was fitting for Halloween, this challenge, and me sticking it to those jerks* in the clayboard industry.

Later.
Jesse

*They're probably not really jerks. I am sure there are lots of nice friendly people who work in the clayboard industry.

BOOB...?

I was staring at this title a long time trying to figure out what it said. Then I noticed Adam forgot the final period of the ellipses. So I fixed it.

October's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

Sorry this one is soooo late, I've been REALLY lazy lately. You've still got some time left. So ghosties or ghoulies or big, bad bullies...as always, the challenge is set. Take it in whatever vomit inducing, perverted, saggy-nippled direction you want.

Game ON!!

Mr. ManWoman Challenge complete...thank god...

That was probably the most hilarious challenge yet! Super Awesome awards to everyone on this round!! You guys brought it to the horrifyingly nightmare-ish table on this one.

So back in college I went to a McDonald's during lunch. The lady at the drive-thru was sporting more facial hair than me at the time...and I was TRYING to grow mine out. True story.

Balloon...er...Box Baby...

So here's my Balloon Baby. I bought this really cool book recently that has all these really amazing paper toys in it. So I decided to make a paper toy for this month's challenge. I think it came out pretty good for my first one. I did the die-line and everything from scratch.

September's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

Is it a man...is it a woman...who knows?! Who cares?!

The challenge is set. LET'S DO THIS!!

Balloon Baby Challenge Complete...

YEAH!!! That's what I'm talking about! Great turn out for this challenge and welcome new addition Francesca. All the submissions were fantastic and disgusting.

(Mine is done by the way I just got to shoot a photo of it. You'll see.)

Something I also wanted to add if you guys want to add you name as a tag as well that would be cool. Basically because I want to be able to look at all of Jesse's gross stuff all at once instead of having to scroll through.

The Prettier Balloon

Babies in Balloons.

Balloon baby? More like Balloon Baby Kitties! Right?

Am I right?

balloon baby V1.jpg

I just finished actually building all the pieces to this in Illustrator. Usually I'd take the time to tweak colors, fine tune and let things marinate a little bit once I got to this point but I'm out of time.

Not just because tomorrow is the 1st, but with the wedding and work and all the jazz coming up in the next few weeks/month, I didn't honestly think I'd get the chance to return to it anytime soon.

So here it is. I fully reserve the right to overhaul the color/composition at anytime.

We got a floater...

The other day I was standing on the subway platform when I reached for my book. I was momentarilly distracted by some people in shiny orange vests sitting over yonder, I took and gander and saw they were asunder. Upon further inspection it was evdient they were ridding the system of an asbestos infection. So I was not paying attention and my poor book slipped from my pearly paws and bounced tither and hither and landed amongst the tracks below:

Poor baby. Has weird arms and no balloon.

Next time, with the full deadline, I will do a real illustration! But I had to take part this time, because I'm young and fresh and excited : D .

July and August Challenge is...

That's right all you amazing art-dudes and dudettes, since I'm all late because of moving and junk I'm combining July and August. Enjoy the extra time!

This week's theme was inspired by all my friends who are popping out babies! *ploop!* Whoa! There goes another one!

Rock on with yo Balloon Baby self!

Floral Dilemma Challenge complete...

Whoa! So I've been packing up all my crap and moving and stuff. I'm somewhat settled in my new place and even have the internets again!

Thanks to all those who partied on July's challenge. I'm sure there's a few floaters hanging out there somewhere. I can't wait to see'em!

TEN Floral Dilemmas!

Last month I struggled to come up with an idea, this month it just came to me instantly. I don't know much about flowers, but I know one thing; cats love to eat them.

Having a buttload of cats (more like TEN buttloads!) we constantly face the same dilemma over and over. Do we (read: Lindsay) buy pretty flowers? It would spruce up our house and hide the noxious fumes, but we also run the risk of the cats eating them, making a mess and puking them up?

It's a real "Floral Dilemma," to say the least.

floral dilemma.jpg
bad kitty! you are bad and ohmygoshyouaresocuteiwanttodie!

If this looks kind of familiar to those who know my work, it should.

I drew a sketch of a cat (specifically Oliva) eating flowers, and as I started recreating it digitally, I realized it was basically the same drawing with slight changes.

So I sped up the process by re-purposing the old artwork. Some (Adam) might call it lazy and cheating, but others (me) call it smart and crafty and awesome and I should probably be commended for being so efficient!

Luckily Adam can't be mad, because he's still laughing over that "TEN buttloads" joke that only he probably gets.

Hula Ghoula hates Deadlines...

Soooo.... I'm pretty late, but Hula Ghoula has arrived!

hula ghoula.jpg
better late than never.

I struggled a lot with this drawing. I redrew it again and again, which is strange for me. Then I tried a new color way that was more time consuming than it was worth.

Add in leaving town for a couple weekends, freelance projects, summer fun and work, and I got behind.

BUT! Notice the flowers?

Are those cute little blossoms going to remain good, like Mother Nature? Or will they be corrupted to be evil, like Hula Ghoula? Hmmm, I don't know. Sounds like a real Floral Dilemma, no?

Ha!

I don't like flowers

But man, do I love flour. Delicious, powdery flour. This guy loves flour too. He loves it so much he lives in it. He loves it so much it is a true dilemma. The dilemma being that his very presence taints the flour and ruins its decadent purity. This guy, in fact, is a jerk. A stupid flour-stomping jerk.

June's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

This month's challenge logo (despite a few technical difficulties) is brought to us by Bryan. The theme is Floral Dilemma...think real hard about the logo and it will make sense. That Bryan is a clever guy. Anyway, bring on the flowers! Bring on the dilemma! It's go time!

Hula Ghoula Challenge complete...sort of...

So...uh...I guess this was a busy month for everyone. Well, feel free to upload art at any time. I got my fingers crossed there are some sweet pieces "in the works" floating around out there that will eventually appear.

May's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

Bust out your grass skirt and your proton pack because it's time for the ghouls, ghosts and zombies to party...Hawaiian style. Anything is possible from surfing spooks to parasitic zombies feasting on a pu pu platter. So grab your pencils and pens and resurrect up some Hula Ghoula.

Retrobot Challenge Complete...

So April was a little bit of a tough one. Between birthdays, lawsuits and other life challenges...looks like a bit of a slim turnout with a few pieces still on the way. Hopefully May goes much better for all of us and for those who posted, fantastic work as always!

Retrobot...sketch...

So I will openly admit that I didn't even have my idea until two nights ago when I was driving home. That's where I get most of my best ideas. Then I come inside my apartment and eat a bunch of corn chips and forget everything. When I finally sat down to start sketching this bad boy out it just kept growing and growing. I'm hoping to have it done by sometime next April...:(

Anyway, here's a sneak at the sketch so far...

April Entry Forthcoming

I'm going to be late for this month, with the Robots.
Until then, here is a Robo-frowny face:

Retro is the new Useless.

To be honest, this one almost didn't get made. At all. I found the topic really tough for me to get into. It took a long time to find an angle to excite me, but once I did, I dove in. Which is kind of the fun of this whole "challenge" thing.

S.......L........O.......T.......H

Have you noticed how all of my posts happen the month after? This is why. I was going to draw myself playing Xbox with my toes, but that would be showcasing talent, not sloth. Shown is the weekend version of me. If I didn't have to go anywhere, I won't get dressed for anything. Showers? Only in my own drool of laziness. (I don't know why I look like a would-be Niko Bellic's cousin, seeing as I'm Mexican. It looks like I'm waiting for him to call me so I can pick him and his sleazy date up from the bowling alley.)

A junk robot or robot junk?!

This is half for Adam and his birthday. This is half for Lindsay. This is also half for everyone else. It's got an inexhaustible number of halves.

copyright 2009 jesse riggle

This is a robot for the following reasons:
  • Lots of right angles
  • Tubes for limbs
  • No nose
  • Wiener
This is retro for the following reasons:
  • Yellowed like grandpa's teeth
  • No pants like all those damn dirty hippies
  • Arms raised to avoid getting attacked by the riot police
  • Badly drawn
This is applicable for a birthday for the following reasons:
  • Wiener
Later dudes.

April's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

So it's my birthday in April and what do I like? Old School and Robots. So, I demand everyone makes me something related to those two awesome things!

Robots = Kicking it.

Inner Sinner Challenge Complete...

Seems like this one was a little tougher, but you all did an incredible job as usual and took this in way more directions than I thought. I guess I should just expect as much right?

Awesome job everyone and I hope you find April's challenge a little less "personal".

The guys know what I'm talkin' about...

So originally I had about a dozen different ideas for this piece. Each more hilarious and yet more inappropriate than the next. Finally I decided on this direction but sadly found that it was still incredibly inappropriate. So check the cropped image above and if no one else is around click here for the full version.

Enjoy!!!!!

And Yet...

Sins are dumb.

I think it might be a sin to sit around and paint on a Friday night. I should be getting my party on or something... Whatever.

Copyright © 2009 Jesse Riggle
Um, so this is my painting. Which I painted tonight, on a Friday. It doesn't apply to the topic at all really. Which I guess is me being a contrary butt-face. But last I checked being a contrary butt-face is not technically a sin, though maybe I should call the pope to confirm. But, as I always say, 'If the pope is infallible, then so am I." So I don't need to ask him, because I say its not a sin, so its not a sin. OK? Perfect. Speaking of which, I couldn't do this for reals even if I wanted too. I am perfect and without sin, and no that's not vanity, see the previous statement about my infallibility. Look it up. And I also don't think being self delusional is a sin either. Not that I am self delusional, but if I was I'd be in the clear anyway.

It's little, on paper, and it's paint.

Later,
Jesse

I'm Lazy

I'm sloth.

this is lazy.

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Sinning is so easy.

When I think about Sin, obviously I think of the 7 Deadly Sins. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride.

And, in most modern cases, I think you can trace the cause of these Sins back to one thing: money.

money idea-working.jpg
i like to buy stuff, too.

I did this version at the beginning of the month and finished it quickly. But I was hoping to go back and do another version with hand-worked media. I still might, but I thought I'd post this before the month is up, to make sure I'm not tardy.

CMYKupid for realz...

...super naked baby squad! kicking ass and breaking hearts!...

Okay! Here it is. I'm getting kinda tired of clean vector work, plus I really liked my drawing so I tried to rework it back into the vector stuff. Hope you guys dig it!

Sweet! That's two for last month...now on to the March challenge.

cmy...DAMN LOVE HURTS!!!

OK, so I'm a little late. Forgive the roughness of the piece. I am at home using the mac which I hardly design on anymore. I'm on a PC 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. :( And my title isn't as clever as the others. AAAAND I just lost an hour out of my day thanks to daylight savings :(.

March's Super Awesome Art Challenge is...

So this month has really gotten away from me already. I originally had a different theme in mind but I thought I would throw you a bone and give you an easy one.

Time to go public! We've all got our flaws and we all battle with our own little personal demons. Whether it be lust, greed, malice or envy; this month's challenge is to illustrate your own personal worst inner demon. No need for background or any extra junk. This is merely a character study. So let the soul searching...er...drawing begin and next month I promise I'll be a little more on the ball. Maybe I need to draw my "slack-off" demon.

Good luck!

CMYKupid Challenge Complete...

Great job everyone...little bit of a slim turnout for this challenge but the submissions we got were still fantastic! Again everyone surprised the heck out of me with the direction they took their artwork. Looks like Sara and myself still have a little work to do...

I hope with the addition of a few extra days and all that Valentines Day mush out of the way we can get a larger participation for March.

As always, keep up the awesome work everyone.

-adam H

CMYfaKe...

Okay...ha ha ha ha...this isn't my final entry but I did this just for kicks. This is how I truly envision the mascot of love.

I do kind of like this piece though...

I'll be posting another piece soon.

CMYKollaboration.

cupid is a baby with it's butt showing. and since i wasn't feeling the butt-babies this month, this entry is a collaboratively morphed, but lovingly handled, symbol of mine and chris (hajny)'s affection.

Linework and Silhouettes.jpg

true love.... true zombie love - that is what symbolizes my love for chris h. and vice versa (i'm sure).

we're in the process of making some wedding plans and thought this was a fitting way to unite our stuff .... (it started out as our save the date and snowballed into something else!)

i drew the faces and inked them and chris added the zombie hair.texture.faces.linework combination!

TRUE LOVE!

CMYKFS

So I did a real quick drawing of a cupid and then separated the colors so as to comply with this month's rules.

It's probably not really the intent of the challenge, but it does satisfy the rules, and I got it in before March 1st too. WHAT.

CMYKittens!

Alright, it's CMYKupid CMYKitten time!

Well, truth be told, these kittens have been visited by Cupid, leaving them with sinful desires, which equals cute baby kittens!

CMYKittens.jpg
that would be inhumane if it weren't so gosh darn cute!

I know it may be simple, but be sure to check out the bigger version on flickr. You can see a couple details that fall out a little bit at this size.

And for those curious, I've already posted the pencil sketch elsewhere...
